StrangerLine runs in your browser and connects you with a single stranger, whichever way you prefer to talk: typing, voice or camera. No registration is involved: load the page, choose how you want to talk, hit start. This page walks through what happens at each step, what is free, and what we ask of you.

How do you talk to strangers on StrangerLine?

Three steps, usually under a minute end to end.

Open the site
Any current browser on a phone, tablet or computer. There is no download and no form at the door.
Pick text, voice or video
The mode is set before each match. Text uses no camera or mic, voice uses the mic only, video uses both. Your browser asks before anything turns on.
Meet one stranger
You are paired with one random person who chose the same mode. Talk while it is good. Tap Find another for someone new.

Can you chat with strangers with no login or registration?

Yes. You can talk to strangers, no sign-up, no email and no phone number. You can start a chat with strangers with no login at all. The site gives you a nickname so the chat works, and none of your real details are involved.

Signing in is optional and only matters later, for example if you want your balance on another device. Nobody needs it to talk to strangers without registration, and we never pass sign-in details to the people you chat with.

What happens during a match?

You see or hear one person, depending on the mode. There is no audience and nobody joins halfway. On every chat screen you will find Find another, which ends the chat and starts a new match, and a report button for anyone who breaks the rules.

On video you can switch between your front and back camera. In any mode you can close the tab whenever you like; the chat simply ends.

How do free matches and the Reward Center work?

Your first chats are on us: every new account gets free matches. The Reward Center is pinned just above the match button. Leave the site open for a bit and it unlocks more, which you can collect several times over the course of a day. We tune the amounts and timing now and then, so trust what the Reward Center shows today over any number you read elsewhere.

Once free matches are spent, longer sessions run on coins. A notice pops up on the call screen before the first coin is used, so the switch from free to paid is never silent.

What do we ask of you?

A short list, and it applies to everyone:

Everyone on StrangerLine has to be 18 or over.
No harassment, hate, threats or explicit content toward someone who did not ask for it.
No recording or screenshotting people to share without their consent.
No scams, spam, selling or asking for money.

What happens when you report someone?

The report goes to our moderators along with the context they need to review it, such as the chat's time and mode. If someone broke the rules, they can be warned, restricted or removed. Blocking someone closes the door on that person from your side.
