StrangerLine / Privacy Policy
Last updated October 1, 2026Privacy Policy
StrangerLine (strangerline.chat) gives adults a private line to a single stranger, by keyboard, voice or camera. You can start without telling us your name, phone number or email. A chat service still has to keep some records to work and to stay safe, and this page lists them in plain words.
Information we keep
Here is everything we hold, grouped by where it comes from.
- For everyone who visits: a random ID stored in the browser, device and browser type, an approximate region worked out from the IP address, and the adult confirmation you gave.
- For each match: start and end times, the chosen mode, and the IDs on both ends. Text-mode messages travel through our servers on the way to the other person.
- Safety records: reports you make, reports made about you, blocks, and notes written by moderators while handling them.
- Your free-match count, what you collected from the Reward Center, and your coins.
- Sign-in details, only if you choose to sign in, such as an email address or the third-party login you picked.
- Purchase records, only if you buy coins: what, when, and the confirmation from our payment provider. Your complete card number is held by that provider, never by us.
- Anything you write to support, and our replies.
What other users can see
Your chat partners never get your real name, number, inbox or IP from us. What reaches them is your nickname plus whatever the chosen mode carries: typing, sound, or picture and sound.
Things you tell a stranger reach them directly, and we cannot take them back. Keep identifying details out of your chats.
Camera, microphone and recordings
Camera and mic access is decided in your browser. Voice mode switches on the mic and video mode adds the camera, each only after you say yes, and either permission can be revoked in the browser whenever you like. Text mode uses neither.
We do not routinely record voice or video calls. If someone reports a chat, a moderator may look at what is attached to that report, like the typed lines or a captured frame, before deciding on action.
Why we use it
- To find matches, connect calls and deliver messages.
- To track free matches, Reward Center claims and coins.
- To act on reports, uphold the community guidelines and stop minors from using the service.
- To detect spam, bots, fraud and abuse of the Reward Center.
- To answer support requests.
- To understand overall usage, for example which modes are busy at which hours, so we can improve the service.
Service providers and legal requests
Personal information is never sold. We share only what is needed with companies that help run the service, such as hosting, video and audio connection providers, payment processors and analytics tools, under agreements that limit how they use it. Information may also be handed over where a court or law demands it, or where someone faces serious danger.
Retention
Session and match records stay only while they serve the running of StrangerLine and any open report. Safety and payment records may be kept longer where fraud prevention, legal duties or open cases require it. When records are no longer needed, they are deleted or anonymised.
Your choices
- Ask for a copy of your data, a correction or deletion by writing to [email protected] with "Data request" in the subject.
- Clear your browser storage to remove the identifier saved on your device.
- Turn off camera or microphone permission in your browser at any time.
- Stop using StrangerLine whenever you like; no account is needed to begin with.
Changes and contact
When this policy is revised, the "Last updated" line above changes with it. Questions go to [email protected].
